As a musical tree, the nûba is nourished by the sap flowing since 14 centuries from Morocco's most remote areas and currents coming from Arabia, grew in the courts of the Andalusian Caliphs, gained strength in the medieval Spain, mingled with the songs of the troubadours and the Sephardim, before being replanted in Maghreb and flourishing further into Morocco under the name of El AlaThe Birth, Zenith and Decline of the El Andalus Civilisation are echoed in the surviving Nûbas performed at Dawn, Evening and Night by the most eminent voices and orchestras of Morocco.Up to this day, the nûbas are still interpreted from Tanger to Tel Aviv in unison in a vibrant communion.
Featuring: Francoise Atlan and the Orchestra of Mohammed Briouel from Fez |
