With her throat dr ying with thirst\, she saw a pot of water in the meadow. She reached for it and gulped a cup. We are two teens from Boulder\, Colorado who worked most summers for various community service organizations only to find th at we were unable to see the results of our efforts. We felt we had no d irect impact and knew we were capable of more than bagging apples and br eaking down boxes for the local charities. Though our resources were lim ited\, we wanted to make a difference and show other teens that you don’ t have to be Angelina Jolie or Bono in order to impact the lives of othe rs. Accordingly\, we formed our own non-profit called CEO 4 Teens (Creat ing Educational Opportunities for Teens).\n \nIn June of 2007\, we went to Ubud\, Indonesia and created three programs with a local college to e ducate teens: Eligible teens can apply for a full scholarship\; a studen t loan\; and after successfully graduating they are able to apply for a microfinance loan to help start their own business. Our goal was to set up a program that will be ongoing for years to come. We interviewed many families and selected ten teens to be our first class to receive a full scholarship to the local college. From start to finish we were able to see the money we raised go directly into the hands of those in need.
